IDOC Valley Release Paths

The Idaho Department of Correction operates the state prison system and supervises felony parole and probation. No IDOC prison was identified inside Valley County. That does not limit the statewide search. A person sentenced in a Valley County case may serve time at an institution or contract bed elsewhere, then leave prison for an approved parole destination. Another person may complete the full sentence and discharge from IDOC jurisdiction.

Release to parole is a physical release from prison, but not the end of the sentence. The person remains in the community under IDOC supervision. Sentence satisfaction or formal discharge marks a later legal milestone. A transfer between institutions is neither event. Likewise, movement from Valley County Detention Center to IDOC means custody continues.

Search IDOC Valley Records

Open the official IDOC Resident/Client Search. Its inputs are Last Name, First Name, and IDOC Number. A last name or IDOC number is required. The portal accepts a partial query with at least the first two characters of a last name or the first three digits of an IDOC number. Use the IDOC number when available because names can repeat.

1. Enter the last name and first name, or enter the known IDOC number.
2. Compare candidate records by full name and the identifiers the result provides.
3. Open the matching detail and read the top status before reviewing any date.
4. Check location, sentencing county, case number, and every active sentence row.
5. Confirm a disputed release, movement, or discharge through IDOC records.

IDOC says the database is updated daily, yet rapidly changing location, status, and scheduled termination information may not appear at once. A search miss can result from spelling, timing, or a county-only case. It does not prove that a person was released. Valley Sentence Fields Explained

The sentence table can show offense, sentencing county, case number, sentence status, Parole Eligibility Date, Released to Supervision, and Sentence Satisfaction Date. Each field answers a narrow question. Parole Eligibility Date is the first point at which parole may be considered under the sentence structure. It is not a promise. Released to Supervision records the most recent supervision placement. Sentence Satisfaction Date is not interchangeable with the day prison doors opened.

Several active sentences can appear at once. Concurrent and consecutive terms, court credit, amended judgments, retained jurisdiction, parole action, and other lawful changes can affect the sequence. Do not isolate one date without reading the overall status and all rows. IDOC also says people who served and satisfied an IDOC sentence continue to appear by name, though satisfied convictions do not display. The identity trail can remain while the full historical discharge narrative requires a records request.

Parole

Conditional community release from the prison portion of a state sentence.

Probation

Court-ordered community supervision, which is distinct from a parole decision.

Discharge

The formal end of the applicable correctional jurisdiction or sentence.

Transfer

Movement between custodians while confinement continues.

IDOC Release Record Proof

A live portal result is useful, but it is not always the complete record. IDOC Sentencing Records maintains sentence calculations, reviews judgments, applies jail and retained-jurisdiction credits, processes parole forfeiture, calculates eligibility dates, and coordinates with courts, jails, and the Commission. Its page links the current JustFOIA request portal.

Identify the person by IDOC number and the Valley County case. Ask for an existing public movement or release record, the released-to-supervision entry, sentence calculation, and sentence-satisfaction or discharge record. The unit can supply records, but it does not give legal advice. If the issue is the parole decision itself, use the Commission's action notice or public-information route. If the issue is the court's sentence, request the judgment from the Valley County clerk.

After full discharge, the Commission says the official notice often called a Gold Seal goes to the last supervision district for forwarding and can take up to a month. That notice is stronger evidence of final discharge than the loss of an active sentence row.

IDOC Valley Jail Location

A distinctive IDOC record issue affects Valley County. A state client can appear in Resident/Client Search with “Valley County Jail” as the location while the header still says “In custody.” The detail may state that the person is not in an IDOC facility and route location questions to the local agency. This is a state client housed locally, not proof of state-prison release.

Read status and location as a pair. If the state result names Valley County Jail, call the detention center at 208-382-7168 for current local location information. For a formal movement record, ask IDOC. For a county booking or release event, use the sheriff request. The agencies hold different parts of the chain, and one record should not be made to answer every question.

Parole Decisions and Release

The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole decides parole. IDOC then carries out custody movement and supervision. The Commission's hearing and review decisions may show a grant, denial, pass, reconsideration, rescission, or revocation-related outcome. A grant can include a tentative parole date, but the date remains conditioned on required programs, an approved parole plan, and completed paperwork.

No one should be described as physically released solely because a favorable action appears. Confirm the later IDOC Released to Supervision event. A denial may leave sentence satisfaction as the outside milestone, subject to lawful changes. A revocation proceeding concerns a person who had been on parole and may have returned to custody.

Weekly hearing agendas can help identify the right proceeding, but they are schedules rather than release records. Dates and times can change. Match the IDOC number, then review the action notice and current state detail.

IDOC Release Dates Are Milestones

Idaho uses a unified sentence with a fixed minimum and a later indeterminate portion. Idaho Code §19-2513 provides the direct sentence structure. During the fixed portion, there is no ordinary parole or discharge, subject to narrow legal exceptions. The eligibility date marks when parole may first be considered, not when release must happen.

Idaho should not be reduced to a blanket 85-percent shortcut. Ordinary monthly deductions under §20-101A concern offenses committed before July 1, 1986. For later offenses, §20-101D allows a director-awarded reduction of no more than fifteen days per month sentenced only for extraordinary meritorious service, such as life-saving or escape-prevention acts. It is not routine credit for good conduct or program attendance.

IDOC Records Contact

IDOC is the correct custodian for state movement, sentence-calculation, and release-to-supervision records. Valley County detention staff cannot certify a statewide sentence calculation or final IDOC discharge.

For active supervision, read the person's displayed Supervising District rather than assuming the sentencing county controls. Valley County lies in the Fourth Judicial District, but an approved residence can place a person under another district.
